Experience

Matthew Anderson has many years of experience in patent prosecution and in assisting clients with developing and securing intellectual property rights worldwide. He has drafted patent applications in heavily litigated sectors such as software, graphical interfaces, and cloud computing as well as in fields that typically have patentability issues raised by the USPTO, such as trading platforms, medical information systems, and blockchain applications. He has previously worked at an AM 100 law firm and at the USPTO as a patent examiner.

In all aspects of his patent prosecution work, Matthew is mindful of client budgets and business plans. In many respects, tailoring the IP strategy to the business plan for the start up or the product launch is as essential as tailoring the strategy to the particular technology sector. He is also a vocal proponent of adapting US prosecution strategies after the AIA to shorten the time spent drafting applications. In the new first to file world, patent applications should take weeks not months to draft and file in order to secure an early filing date.

Matthew studied applied physics at NJIT and focused on solid state physics, semiconductors, optics, and computer science. He also conducted research in various optical inspection techniques including Raman spectroscopy, FT-IR, and x-ray scattering. He also worked with Dr. Gary on the redesign of the Owens Valley solar radio telescope , expanding the baseline to 1.5km and adding 7 radio antenna dishes.

In his free time, Matthew enjoys sailing on the Chesapeake and mapping caves in West Virginia.
